WE SAY: As soon as you make money, get insurance because disaster will strike, usually while you’re on vacation, so protect yourself so you can take more calculated risks.

Once you are doing big enough business, confronting actual risks, or anticipating potential risks, it’s time to ensure you have sufficient insurance in place for all aspects of your business. And then over-insure by topping up what is the minimum you are advised to put in place.

After more than ten years in business, we believe the most successful people are those who (1) make the quickest decisions and then implement those decisions quickly, and (2) take the most measured risks. The third key ingredient is luck.

As you now know, one of us (Jamie) is conservative and not a big risk taker. And the other one (Brian) is not a quick decision-maker. So how did we succeed where others have failed? We think the answer is that we balanced each other concerning (1) and (2) and then made our own luck. Find that balance.
